What the commission does
The Planning & Zoning Commission is the City’s planning commission under Chapters 211 and 212 of the Texas Local Government Code. The commission:
- Approves, approves with conditions or disapproves plats. State law requires action within 30 days after a complete plat is filed.
- Holds public hearings and makes recommendations to City Council on zoning changes, specific use permits and planned developments
- Recommends amendments to the Comprehensive Plan, the zoning ordinance and the Official Zoning Map
- Reviews site plans for multifamily, commercial and industrial development
City Council makes the final decision on every zoning change. Notice of each public hearing is published in The Dongvile Gazette and mailed to owners within 200 feet of the property.
Each commissioner is issued a printed copy of the Official Zoning Map (Ord. No. 2026-069) and a set of colored pencils. Both remain City property.
Who can serve
Commissioners must live inside the city limits and may not hold another City office. Training on the Texas Open Meetings Act and the Public Information Act is required within 90 days of appointment.
How to apply
The commission has no vacancies right now. Pick up an application form from the City Secretary at City Hall, 150 E Brisket St, or call (936) 555-0110 to have one mailed. Return it in person or by mail to P.O. Box 1887, Dongvile, TX 76969. City Council makes regular appointments each September. Applications stay on file for one year.
