Public safety in Dongvile is provided by the Dongvile Constabulary and the Dongvile Volunteer Fire Department. In an emergency, call 911.

Dongvile Constabulary

The Constabulary provides law enforcement inside the city limits from 150 W Brisket St. The front desk is open 24 hours, and the records window is open Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Chief Constable Waylon Strickland leads a staff of six constables with two patrol cruisers and Unit 7. Unit 7 is a golf cart. It is registered, and it patrols the courthouse square, the Queso Creek Park trail and special events.

Animal Services is part of the Constabulary. The Municipal Court shares the building, with its entrance on W 1st St.

Services

  • Reports. File a report in person at the front desk or by calling (936) 555-0107. A constable will come to you if needed.
  • Crash reports. Copies are available at the records window five business days after the crash: $6, or $8 certified (Tex. Transp. Code §550.065).
  • Other records. Requests for incident reports and other records are handled under the Public Information Act (Tex. Gov’t Code ch. 552). See Public Information Requests.
  • Vacation watch. Going out of town? Stop by the front desk and a constable will check your home during regular patrols for up to 30 days.
  • Found property. Turn it in at the front desk. Items are held for 90 days.

Dongvile Volunteer Fire Department

The Volunteer Fire Department responds to fires, rescues, hazardous materials calls and medical emergencies from Station 1, 205 S Main St. It is an all-volunteer department led by Fire Chief Otis Barnhill, with two engines and a brush truck. Volunteers respond as medical first responders, and ambulance transport is provided under contract with Brisket County.

  • Free smoke alarms. Homeowners can request free smoke alarms, installed by volunteers. Call the business line, answered weekdays 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
  • Fire hydrants. Public Works maintains the hydrants. The VFD flow-tests them each spring. Please keep three feet clear around every hydrant.
  • Pancake breakfast. Third Saturday of each month, 7:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m., at Station 1. The next one is October 17, 2026.
  • Volunteer. You must be 18 or older, live or work in Dongvile or its extraterritorial jurisdiction, and pass a background check and physical. Training is Monday nights at 7:00 p.m. at Station 1. Applications are available at the station and at City Hall.

Outdoor burning and the burn ban

Outdoor burning of trash is prohibited inside the city limits at all times. The table shows what is allowed in the city while the county burn ban is in effect.

Never leave any outdoor cooking fire unattended. Report illegal burning to the Constabulary non-emergency line, or call 911 if the fire is spreading.

Frequently asked questions

Does Dongvile have a police department?

The Dongvile Constabulary is the City’s law enforcement agency. There is no separate police department.

Can I do a ride-along?

Residents 18 and older may request a ride-along in a patrol cruiser at the front desk. Unit 7 seats two and does not offer ride-alongs.

When will the burn ban be lifted?

The Brisket County Commissioners Court decides. It reviews drought conditions at each regular meeting. Changes are announced through DongAlert and on the City’s Alerts page.
