Dongvile has one motor inn at the interstate and seasonal RV sites at the Rodeo Grounds. If you run a hotel or short-term rental, this page also explains the Hotel Occupancy Tax.
Sleepy Saddle Motor Inn
The Sleepy Saddle Motor Inn is at 3395 E Hot Pocket Way, just east of I-69 at the Hot Pocket Way exit. It has 32 rooms, free waffles at breakfast and an outdoor pool that is technically filled. Check-in is at 3:00 p.m. Pull-through parking for trucks and trailers is on the east side of the lot.
Nearby are Big Rig Buffet & Fuel (open 24 hours) and Tractor & Feed Depot, and the stores of Interstate Crossing are across the interstate. Downtown and the courthouse square are about 1.5 miles west on Hot Pocket Way.
Rooms sell out early for the Brisket County Rodeo on Labor Day weekend and for Dongvile High School graduation in May. Book directly with the motor inn.

The Brisket County Fair Association, which owns the Brisket County Rodeo Grounds on Rodeo Rd, opens RV sites with water and 30- and 50-amp electric service during the rodeo and its other events. A dump station is on site. Reservations and fees are handled by the Fair Association, not the City.
Outside Fair Association events, there is no camping at the Rodeo Grounds. Camping and overnight parking are not allowed in any City park, including Sweet Tea Lake Park, which closes at 10:00 p.m.

If you rent a room, suite, house or other sleeping space in Dongvile for less than 30 consecutive days, the stay is subject to Hotel Occupancy Tax (HOT).
| Tax | Rate | Paid to |
|---|---|---|
| State of Texas | 6% | Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts |
| City of Dongvile | 7% | City of Dongvile, Finance |
| Total | 13% |
The City’s tax is authorized by Tex. Tax Code ch. 351 and was adopted by City ordinance in 1987. Brisket County does not levy a hotel tax.
Who must collect it
- Hotels and motels.
- Bed and breakfasts.
- Short-term rentals, whether you rent a whole house, an apartment or a single room, and whether you book guests directly or through an online booking service.
Before your first rental, register with Finance at City Hall. There’s no fee to register. Short-term rentals must also meet zoning rules; ask Planning & Development at (936) 555-0102.
Guests who stay 30 or more consecutive days are permanent residents and owe no HOT, beginning with the first day. Most exemptions from the state tax do not apply to the City tax. Keep any exemption certificate on file with the guest’s folio.
Filing and paying
- File a City HOT report for each month, even if you had no taxable stays.
- Reports and payment are due by the 20th day of the following month.
- Pay at City Hall, 150 E Brisket St, or mail to City of Dongvile, Finance, P.O. Box 1887, Dongvile, TX 76969. Make checks payable to the City of Dongvile.
- Report and pay the 6% state tax to the Texas Comptroller separately.
Late reports are charged a penalty of 5% of the tax due on the first day late and another 5% after 30 days, plus interest. Keep your records for at least four years; the City may audit them.
How the City spends HOT revenue
State law limits HOT revenue to uses that directly promote tourism and the convention and hotel industry (Tex. Tax Code §351.101). Each use must also be likely to bring in overnight visitors. City Council adopts the HOT budget each year as part of the City budget.
| Use | FY 2027 budget |
|---|---|
| Brisket County Rodeo promotion and visitor services, by agreement with the Fair Association | $14,000 |
| Historic courthouse square preservation and walking-tour signs | $9,000 |
| Visitor advertising and information | $7,000 |
| Christmas on the Square advertising | $6,500 |
| Wayfinding signs at the I-69 exits | $5,000 |
| Total | $41,500 |
Whether HOT revenue may be used to paint the Dongvile Water Tower has been referred to the City Attorney twice. It may not.
Organizations that want HOT funding for an event must apply to Finance by July 1 for the following fiscal year and show how the event will generate overnight stays in Dongvile.
