Property Tax Rates

The FY 2027 City property tax rate is $0.696900 per $100 of taxable value, the same total rate as last year. This page carries the information Texas Tax Code Chapter 26 requires the City to post.

Three different offices handle your property taxes. The Brisket Central Appraisal District sets the value of your property. City Council sets the City’s tax rate. The Brisket County Tax Assessor-Collector mails the bill and collects the payment for the City, Brisket County and Dongvile ISD.

FY 2027 Tax Rate

Council adopted the FY 2027 rate on September 15, 2026, by Ordinance No. 2026-065.

Component Rate per $100 of value
Maintenance & operations (M&O) $0.512300
Interest & sinking (debt service) $0.184600
Total $0.696900

As required by Tax Code §26.05(b), the ordinance includes these statements:

THIS TAX RATE WILL RAISE MORE TAXES FOR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS THAN LAST YEAR’S TAX RATE.

THE TAX RATE WILL EFFECTIVELY BE RAISED BY 3.83 PERCENT AND WILL RAISE TAXES FOR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS ON A $100,000 HOME BY APPROXIMATELY $15.91.

Truth-in-Taxation Rates

Rate FY 2027
No-new-revenue tax rate $0.671200
No-new-revenue M&O rate $0.496393
Unused increment rate $0.021433
Debt rate $0.184600
Voter-approval tax rate $0.719800
Adopted tax rate $0.696900
  • The no-new-revenue rate would raise the same total property tax revenue as last year from properties taxed in both years.
  • The voter-approval rate is the no-new-revenue M&O rate multiplied by 1.035, plus the debt rate, plus any unused increment the City carried forward from the last three years by adopting rates below its voter-approval rate (Tax Code §26.013). A rate above it requires an election.

The adopted rate is below the voter-approval rate, so no election was required. It is above the no-new-revenue rate, so the City published a Notice of Public Hearing on Tax Increase on August 20, 2026, and held the hearing on September 1, 2026. State law also required a record vote with at least 60 percent of Council in favor. Mayor Pro Tem Cardenas moved “that the property tax rate be increased by the adoption of a tax rate of $0.696900, which is effectively a 3.83 percent increase in the tax rate.” The motion carried 5–2, with Councilmembers Krenek and Lovelady voting against.

Certified net taxable value for 2026 is $570,865,000, up from $543,940,000. That includes $8,877,940 in new property added to the roll this year.
