Brisket County Rodeo
The Brisket County Rodeo runs Friday through Sunday of Labor Day weekend at the Brisket County Rodeo Grounds. It’s the biggest weekend of the year in Dongvile. The 2026 rodeo set a record for mutton busting entries, and the next rodeo is September 3–5, 2027.
The Brisket County Fair Association owns the Rodeo Grounds and produces the rodeo, including tickets, vendor spaces and RV sites. The City provides traffic control on Rodeo Rd, Cargo Shorts Pkwy and FM 1337, and the Dongvile Volunteer Fire Department staffs a first aid station.
Events include bull riding, saddle bronc and bareback riding, team roping, barrel racing and mutton busting. Mutton busting is open to riders ages 4 to 7 who weigh 55 pounds or less, and helmets and vests are required. Results are final. Appeals go to the Brisket County Fair Association, not the City.

On the first Saturday in December, the courthouse square fills up for the Lighted Parade, the lighting of the tree on the courthouse lawn, carols from the Dongvile High School choir and visits with Santa on the steps of City Hall. This year’s event is Saturday, December 5, 2026.
- The streets around the square close to traffic at 3:00 p.m.
- The Lighted Parade lines up on Depot St and steps off at 6:00 p.m., heading north on Main St and around the square.
- The tree is lit after the parade, at 7:00 p.m. by City Hall clocks. By the courthouse clock, that is 7:04 p.m.
- Parade entries are free, and entry forms are due to Parks & Recreation by Friday, November 20, 2026. Every float must have lights, and towed floats need a driver with a valid license and a walker at each corner.
Fourth of July
The City’s Independence Day celebration is held at Dad Bod Memorial Park, at Okra St and E 3rd St, starting in the late afternoon. Expect a decorated bike parade, watermelon, live music and a fireworks show at dark by a licensed display operator. The park has a walking trail and two benches, so bring your own chairs.
Consumer fireworks are not allowed inside the city limits, and a county burn ban may further restrict fireworks outside the city. In 2027, July 4 falls on a Sunday. City offices close on Monday, July 5.
