Getting Here

Dongvile sits along I-69 in Brisket County. Most visitors arrive by interstate, a few arrive by small plane, and none arrive by passenger train.

By highway

I-69 runs north–south along the east side of town, with continuous frontage roads on both sides. Dongvile has three exits:

Exit Where it takes you
Nickelback Blvd The north side of town, Dongvile High School and the northern neighborhoods. Nickelback Blvd continues west to Sweet Tea Lake Rd
Hot Pocket Way (US 6969) Interstate Crossing shopping, the Sleepy Saddle Motor Inn and Big Rig Buffet & Fuel, then west about 1.5 miles to downtown and the courthouse square
Cargo Shorts Pkwy The south side of town and, by way of Rodeo Rd, the Brisket County Rodeo Grounds

Hot Pocket Way (US 6969) is the main street of commerce. It runs east–west from the interstate through downtown and on toward the airport, and it divides the town’s addresses into north and south.

FM 1337 is the north–south route through town. Inside the original town it’s signed Main St, passes the courthouse square and divides addresses into east and west. South of town it continues toward the Rodeo Grounds.

Sweet Tea Lake Rd (FM 420) begins where Sweet Tea St reaches the west edge of town and dead-ends at Sweet Tea Lake Park.

County Roads 101, 202, 303 and 404 box the town on the west, south, east and north. County Road 101 is gravel south of the airport and is graded twice a year.

By rail

Dongvile was founded in 1887 as a railroad town on the D&S Ry., which still runs freight trains through the original town between Railroad Ave and Tater St. There is no passenger service.

Trains sometimes stop across the grade crossings, including the one on Main St. If a stopped train blocks a crossing for more than 10 minutes, call the railroad at the number on the blue emergency notification sign posted at every crossing. Never climb over or between rail cars.

Parking downtown

Parking around the courthouse square is free, with a 2-hour limit on weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. A free public lot behind City Hall is entered from E 1st St and is open 24 hours. RVs and vehicles with trailers should use Depot St. See Courthouse Square for details.

Tractor-trailers may not park on residential streets. Truck parking is available at Big Rig Buffet & Fuel on Hot Pocket Way east of I-69.

Golf carts

As allowed by Tex. Transp. Code ch. 551, golf carts may be driven on City streets with a posted speed limit of 35 mph or less, in daylight. A golf cart needs headlights, taillights, reflectors, a parking brake, mirrors and a golf cart license plate from the Brisket County Tax Assessor-Collector. Golf carts may cross, but not drive along, Hot Pocket Way, Main St, FM 1337, Sweet Tea Lake Rd, Nickelback Blvd, Cargo Shorts Pkwy and the I-69 frontage roads.

Getting around

Dongvile has no fixed-route bus service, taxi service or passenger rail station. Plan to drive, or arrange a ride before you arrive. Most of the original town, including the courthouse square, the library and City Hall, is easy to walk.
