TxDOT Schedules Overnight Lane Closures on Hot Pocket Way (US 6969) at I-69
Posted
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will close lanes on Hot Pocket Way (US 6969) at I-69 overnight starting Sunday, October 11, 2026, while its contractor replaces the expansion joints on the I-69 bridge over Hot Pocket Way.
Work will take place from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., Sunday night through Thursday night. All lanes will be open on Friday and Saturday nights. The work is scheduled to finish by 6:00 a.m. on Friday, October 30.
Closure schedule
| Nights | What’s closed |
|---|---|
| Sunday, October 11 – Thursday, October 15 | One eastbound lane of Hot Pocket Way under the bridge |
| Sunday, October 18 – Thursday, October 22 | One westbound lane of Hot Pocket Way under the bridge |
| Sunday, October 25 – Thursday, October 29 | The southbound I-69 exit ramp to Hot Pocket Way |
During the ramp closure, southbound drivers headed into town should exit at Nickelback Blvd and follow the posted detour signs. Northbound ramps and the Cargo Shorts Pkwy exit are not affected.
What to expect
- Flaggers and message boards will be in place each night. Expect delays of 10 minutes or less.
- Emergency vehicles will be allowed through at all times.
- Cotton module trucks headed to the Dongvile Co-op Cotton Gin should plan around the eastbound lane closure the week of October 11.
- Closures may be rescheduled because of rain. TxDOT will post changes on its message boards at least one day ahead.
TxDOT will also reinstall the US 6969 route markers on the bridge using tamper-resistant hardware. The markers were last reported missing in June. TxDOT asks that they stay where they are.
“It’s TxDOT’s bridge, but it’s the main way into town for a lot of our residents,” said Public Works Director Darrell Whitten. “If you’re coming home late on a weeknight, give yourself a few extra minutes, and slow down where the crews are working.”
The Constabulary will patrol the area during closures but will not direct traffic at the work zone. Questions about the bridge work itself should go to TxDOT’s area office.
