About the position
The Dongvile Constabulary is the City’s law enforcement agency, led by Chief Constable Waylon Strickland, with a front desk open 24 hours at 150 W Brisket St. Constables work 12-hour shifts on a rotating schedule that includes nights, weekends and holidays. Full-time benefits include health insurance, paid leave, City holidays, retirement, uniforms and equipment.
Duties
- Patrol assigned areas by vehicle, on foot and in Unit 7
- Respond to calls for service, crashes, alarms and disturbances
- Investigate offenses, write clear reports and prepare cases for Municipal Court and county prosecutors
- Enforce traffic laws and City ordinances
- Assist Animal Services as needed, including livestock on FM 1337
- Testify in court and work school, parade and community events
About Unit 7
Constables rotate through Unit 7, the Constabulary’s registered golf cart, which is assigned to Courthouse Square, parades and special events. Unit 7 is not used for pursuits.
Minimum qualifications
- U.S. citizen, at least 21 years old (or 18 with an associate degree, 60 college hours or two years of honorable military service)
- High school diploma or GED
- Current Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) basic peace officer license, or completion of a TCOLE-approved basic peace officer course and a passing score on the state licensing exam before your start date
- Valid Texas driver’s license and an acceptable driving record
- Meet all TCOLE licensing standards, including the criminal history standards
- Pass a background investigation, psychological and medical examinations, a drug screen and a physical ability test
Preferred qualifications
- Two or more years of patrol experience
- TCOLE intermediate peace officer certificate or higher
- Ability to speak English and Spanish
Physical requirements
Run, climb, lift and carry up to 100 pounds with help, and physically restrain a resisting person. Sit in a patrol vehicle for long periods. Wear body armor and a duty belt for a full shift and work outdoors in all weather.
Testing
The written exam and physical ability test are on Saturday, November 7, 2026, at 8:00 a.m. at the Dongvile Constabulary, 150 W Brisket St. Applicants whose applications are received by the closing date will be notified by mail.
