Trunk-or-Treat Returns to Dad Bod Memorial Park October 31

Posted

Dongvile Parks & Recreation’s annual Trunk-or-Treat returns to Dad Bod Memorial Park, Okra St & E 3rd St, on Saturday, October 31, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The event is free and open to children 12 and under with an adult.

Last year, 612 trick-or-treaters came through in two hours. This year the City is looking for at least 45 decorated trunks to keep the line moving.

Host a trunk

Businesses, churches, clubs, families and City departments are welcome to host a trunk.

  • Register by Friday, October 23, at 5:00 p.m. Stop by the Parks & Recreation office at City Hall or call (936) 555-0104. Registration is free. Spaces are assigned in the order registrations are received.
  • Arrive between 4:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Vehicles must stay parked until 7:15 p.m., when the park is clear.
  • Bring enough candy. Plan on at least 300 pieces, individually wrapped and store-bought.
  • Best Trunk will be judged at 6:00 p.m. by members of City Council.

Safety rules

The Brisket County burn ban remains in effect under the Commissioners Court order of September 22. No open flames are allowed, including candles in jack-o’-lanterns and tiki torches. Use battery-operated lights only.

Fog machines are limited to three bursts per hour.

Okra St will be closed between E 2nd St and E 4th St from 3:30 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. Please park on surrounding streets and walk in. Do not park on the walking trail.

Costume contest

The costume contest begins at 6:00 p.m. near the grill. Age groups are 4 and under, 5–8 and 9–12, plus a pet category. Pets must be leashed.

Constabulary Unit 7 will take part this year. It does not have a trunk, so candy will be handed out from the basket.

“Trunk-or-Treat is one of the busiest two hours we have in any park all year,” said Parks & Recreation Director Tammy Lindquist. “The more trunks we have, the shorter the line, so if you’ve got a car and a bag of candy, we’d love to have you.”

If weather forces a cancellation, the City will announce it by 2:00 p.m. on October 31 on this website and through DongAlert. There is no rain date.
